First Race in 6 days!!!!!

Tri for Joe is coming up in only 6 days! (or 5, depending on how you count days - the race is Saturday). I am super excited for this one - but I'm hoping the weather will allow me to keep my excitement up. After an absolutely beautiful weekend, the rain came back in full force this morning. And this is what the forecast looks like for the rest of the week (the pic only shows through Friday - that same forecast goes all the way through to next Monday. Awesome.

(Sidenote: Yes, I am bitching about our crap weather, but my heart goes out to all the folks affected by the storms this weekend. So scary how that can happen so fast. My heart goes out to all of the folks who had one of their worst weekends ever, I am sure.)

Luckily, we could not have had more beautiful weather this weekend though. Saturday I met BDD and my friend Paul for a beautiful ride. We did the 27 mile loop BDD had planned for last weekend, sans the detour. The sun was in the sky and beautiful, the breeze perfect. We pushed it a bit more this time out - I'm getting more comfortable with the bike, so I didn't feel the need to just stroll along. Overall just a wonderful outing. We did the route in less than 2 hours, so that meant there was still plenty of the day to enjoy.

I headed home and decided to stay outside as long as possible. I cleaned out the inside of my car, then I hand washed the outside. Then I waxed the outside. Then I Rain-X'ed the windows! Just beautiful.

Sunday the weather was very pretty too, but the temps started to rise a bit. I met Run Club for a 5 mile run and just about died in the middle. Between the beers I had the night before and the heat of the morning, I struggled. I got it done, but not without a couple walk breaks. Egads, I have to get conditioned to this warmer weather!!!!

Training is going well, but I have to keep up the momentum. It always seems like after 3 weeks of hardcore training, I get burned out. Mondays have turned into my rest days, which actually works pretty well. I just have to get that gusto back on Tuesday mornings!!!

Anyway, Tri for Joe is at 7am on Saturday - very excited. I have heard the swim is a bit crazy - a good chunk of the pool is less than 4 feet deep, and the water is packed with people. No PRs on the horizon, but it should be a good time.

That's it here! I hope you all had awesome training weekends! (or race weekends!)

I think that "burnout after three hard weeks" thing is pretty normal, right? Have you considered just straight up working it into your schedule?

What do you mean about working it into my schedule? My training? It all fits with my schedule fine, it's just exhausting :p

And Tracy, I realized this morning what you meant by "working it into my schedule." I think I'm going to take that advice 3 hard weeks, one lesser intensity, repeat. That should keep me on track!!
