Holiday Hangover

....well, no hangovers quite yet, but I am sure one is on its way. I actually have some great photos of what my holiday looked like (food and gifts mainly), but I don't have my camera with me at the moment to download the photos. SO - I will instead bore you with a few summary tidbits.

1) Christmas Eve the hubs and I had lunch at Steak & Shake. My awesomely healthy lunch included a grilled cheese, an order of fries and an egg nog milkshake. I felt sluggish by later that afternoon. Around 4:30 I bundled up and decided to go out for a run. It was tough to get started, but once I got going, I felt great. I was running on a sidewalk that heads out of town, and I realized I had never run to the end of the sidewalk. So i did. Four miles later, I reached the end of the sidewalk. Which meant I had four miles to run home. Turns out I was greeted to the sight a horse drawn carriage, luminaries along the sidewalk, carol singing as I ran past three separate churches, and even a family of deer munching on grass only a few feet from the sidewalk. For the first time EVER, I "accidentally" ran eight miles. I checked my phone when I got home, and I even managed to keep an average pace of just less than 10 minutes per mile. Sweet.

2) Because I was a good girl this year and promise to be an even better one next year, Santa (hubs) brought me a Garmin 305!!! WOOT! I have tried it out a couple times, and so far so good. I haven't taken it out on the street yet, and I am greatly looking forward to that. I also got some sweet running gloves and an Under Armour running hat. Woo hoo!

3) I decided to get on the workout horse PRIOR to New Year's. So far, so good. Monday was a 25 minute incline/speed workout on the treadmill followed by 10 minutes on the rower. This morning was spin followed by strength training.

4) Big change in spin starting next week: the Tuesday class I normally attend will now start at 5:45am and end at 7:15am (right now it's 6-7am). That's a straight hour and a half on the bike. I don't think I have ever been on a bike that long - stationary or not! I'm kind of pumped about the change though, as I always feel like I don't build enough of a bike base since I don't attend the Thursday performance class. Now I feel like this hour and a half session will work quite nicely.

5) I'm thinking about my race schedule but have signed up for nothing yet. I figure that most of the races I want to do won't sell out, so no major worries, right? I did see that Ohio State has an indoor tri on February 6 that is limited to 180 people. I'm considering it, but not sure :-\ It's $45 to race indoors. But it could be fun and a good gauge of where I am at.......

Also, there is a New Year's race that I keep getting emails about. I'm not going to do it for two reasons - first, I don't plan on being in the condition to run well on New year's morning. Second, the finish features a pig roast. For a vegetarian, that is one of the least appealing finish line foods I could ever imagine. Ick.

I got a 305 too! Sounds like you are keeping busy and you could have done a lot worse at Steak + Shake.

Yay for a new Garmin! I LOVE my Garmin and I know you will too! :)
I'm a vegetarian too and that pig roast at the end of a race just sounds disgusting!! YUCK!
