Oh my gosh. I just got back from my first (and last) attempt at punting. My friend Martha and I went down to the river after lunch and rented a boat for an hour. Thinking it would be as easy as a rowboat, we were VERY mistaken. Let's just say there was A LOT of cussing, utterances of "oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh" and "WATCH OUT FOR THE HUGE BOAT!!!!"

If you don't know what punting is, google it. I am far too traumatized to even begin to define in it. In fact, i think my definition of it may be "a way in which you could die upon a river." Lordy. I am not a sportsman. How Martha can even talk to me anymore is amazing. My mouth was spewing things a sailor would blush at. Geez - I'm so embarrased.

I know that at some point in time, this whole thing will be funny. Hopefully as soon as I get done shaking. HA! I need a drink..........

EDIT: Here's the photos, now that I have regained my compuser. Any smile is totally fake and done just for the camera :p

This is Martha bravely saying that she would guide us out from the dock. She changed her mind about 30 seconds after this picture was taken. I ended up doing the initial driving (excuse me, punting.....)

Here is me, steering us out of the dock onto the river....I kind of look like I know what I am doing, right????

And here is me as I took over steering for the return back to the dock. I was feeling good here, as I had just been relaxing in the boat before this. Within five minutes of this picture, I was screaming expletives at rich English people passing us in yachts. okay, well maybe not that bad, but I really really wanted to.

You could use a PINT after attempting to PUNT. In retrospect, that will probably be one of the funniest memories you'll have of your trip. Almost as good as pushing a car that won't go into reverse in Ireland! CHEERS to the punter!
