Open Hearts? Really? I see something totally different

Have any of you seen commercials or ads for Kay Jewelers' new "Open Hearts" line? Designed by actress Jane Seymour (supposedly), the line of pendants, earrings and charms is supposed to be two open hearts. The ad features the line, "If your heart is open, love will always find a way in." Okay, so yes - the sentiment is sweet. But is it just me, or does the "Open Hearts" pendant look a whole lot like a naked curvy woman turning around to look over her shoulder? Mike and I have been jokingly referring to the jewelry as the T&A line. (T&A? Um, a four letter word for boobies and a three letter word for the booty) What's your call?

RUNNING LOG: 4.64 miles this morning - but damn it seemed a lot farther than last time!

Favorite New Recipe Blog

Here lately when I google a recipe title, I often end up getting shuttled to this blog: Fat Free Vegan Kitchen. It is a treasure trove of vegan recipes that are fantastic. I'm not vegan, but this roll of recipes is allowing me to build in more and more vegan dishes to our menu at home.

Tonight I am trying cumin rice with eggplant and peas. I bought a cute little egg plant this weekend at the grocery store, and I wanted something fun to do with it. We also happen to have every other ingredient for the recipe on hand at home. We are going to take the author's suggestion of having some roasted asparagus on the side. Our vegan house guest, Stefan, is going to do the honors of making some lentil dip to pair with the whole thing as well. I am actually really looking forward to this meal! Since we have stuff going on every other night this week, it is our one chance to have a healthy meal at home. I hope this turns out as well as it sounds!

RECIPE REVIEW: The Cumin Rice came out wonderfully. I thought we had frozen peas, but we did not. Therefore, I subbed in a can of peas, and it actually worked fine. Just don't overstir (and add the peas at the end when you take the rice out of the oven). We all decided that the dish would possibly even benefit from the addition of some raisins or pine nuts. For non-vegans, a dash of plain yogurt would be a nice touch, too. I added a bit of extra cayenne pepper, and it added a nice back burn on the rice. Overall, a great dish. I thought that with the cumin it would be more southwestern, but the dish was definitely more Middle Eastern in flavor. Very yummy.

Now THAT is a unique gift

This morning I was checking out CNN.com as normal, and I saw this little ad (click on the photo to see it larger):

My initial thought was, "Buy a seal as a gift?" I don't think that's what they are getting at, but it gave me a nice chuckle. HAPPY FRIDAY!

Ridiculous Addictions: Facebook Wrestler

I have NO idea why I keep playing this silly little game. Really. I was invited to the Facebook Wrestler application several months ago by some of the Duke Poli Sci guys. Mike joined, Brendan joined, and hell, even a certain gubernatorial candidate joined. I thought, "Sure, why not." In the beginning I was doing terrible. Okay, so "doing" is a bad word to use. You don't really DO anything. You select moves, train on the moves, buy new moves, then just randomly pick a move in a fight. You just hope your opponent hasn't blocked your move or trained their defenses so high that your move fails. It's very silly.

Some folks are WAY into it - tag team matches, stables, elaborate plotlines, etc. Me, I just do the matches. I have become good enough to claim the Duke title 3 times, and I am working my way up the RDU rankings. Why do I even care? I have NO idea. Way back when my ex and I were first dating in College Station, he used to do an online wrestling league with some friends. They put together these elaborate html wrestling matches, and they put a lot of thought and creativity into it. I did not get it AT ALL. But now, I think I do get it a bit more. And my silly wrestling league isn't even half as involved as theirs was. But there is a certain fun-ness to the smack talk and crazy outfits.

Oh well. Silly vices we all have, yes? (was that too Yoda like?)

But if you're looking for something to do, or if you want to get the crap smacked out of you (online of course) by the three time Duke Facebook Wrestling Champion, challenge me to a match........

I know it's old news, but...

...every time I watch this I just die laughing. Everyone saw it months ago, but sometimes we just have to revisit the good stuff :-)

Only in Texas

The Fort Bend Herald is my old hometown newspaper, serving the Richmond/Rosenberg area, as well as Needville. They have a watered down on-line version I check fairly regularly. I don't know if you can read any of the text on this particular page or not, but I got a pretty good laugh out of the caption for the photo on the front page. Well, the caption isn't that funny, but the photo attribution is priceless: "Photo courtesy of Cowboy Bill"
