Let the new routine begin...

Yesterday was my first full eight hour day in my new job. And they are throwing me right in, no delay. My list of projects has already started - and I have three deliverables due by this Friday. Wow. I haven't even talked to our other consultant yet, so I have no idea what she wants to throw at me yet. Needless to say, I don't think there will be much down time. Which is good. I'm sick of watching the clock.

I am also happy to report that I am leaving my old job in very good shape. I just launched a new company intranet and knowledge management system. They were released on Monday and so far so good. Awesome.

On the training front, holding steady. Still have run club on Sundays and Wednesdays. This past Sunday's run was quite fantastic. Which is saying A LOT as I was a tad dehydrated from some Saturday night drinking and a late night out. Yet even with only 5.5 hours of sleep, I rolled out of bed at 8 on Sunday and hauled myself to run club for a beautiful 5 mile run in New Albany. For the first time ever, I actually finished first out of the 5 mile run group. (I am sure that has nothing to do with the fact that the two faster runners went on an 8 mile loop instead, and my run club coach hung back at intersections to make sure that the group didn't get lost). At any rate, it felt great.

The best part was at the end. My coach said "Don't take this the wrong way, but have you lost weight? You finished that run really strong, and you are looking a lot more sleek than when you first started run club." Why yes, coach, I have lost almost 15 pounds! SWEET. It's just nice to have it noticed!

And a random observation - the Starbucks in New Albany is like THE place to hang out on Sunday mornings for athletes. Beyond our run club, there were several cyclists meeting and riding from the location. By the time we all got back, the Starbucks patio was strategically segregated into the runner side and the cyclist side. ha! But DAMN for the bike porn outside. I was having total and absolute bike envy. Wow. I am really aching for a sweet ride. But I guess fall/winter isn't necessarily the time to go for that, right??

That's about it for now! My blogging may slow down a bit with the new job. The new responsibilities and expectations will limit my work time distractions a bit more than normal. Until I get in a good place and feel more secure, I may not be on as much. For all my other fave bloggers, I am reading you every day through google reader, so please keep writing to keep me entertained!!! ha!

One last thing - on a whim I signed up for a local 5K trail run (Pink Strides Trail Run) this Saturday out at Infirmary Mound Park in Granville. I have been meaning to check out the trails here and just have never managed to do it. According to the race site:

Proceeds from this event will provide mammograms for qualifying Licking County women through SASS (Screenings & Survivor Support) for Breast Cancer in Licking County. Proceeds will also provide wellness programming for Licking County residents though We’re Active Licking County (WALC).

Great cause, trail run, new place and I still need to get a gauge on my current 5K race time. Not sure if a trail run is the place to try and break my 30 minute goal, but a gal can try, right????

Sounds like a great race - anything on trails is fun, but not sure about thinking PR.

That always happens with my sister's running club, too - any Saturday/Sunday, the local bagel shop is OVERRUN with runners! (Ha, that's a pun: overRUN with runners!) But seriously, you're doing such an amazing and impressive job!!
